If you’ve always wanted to start your own blog, but never got around to it – now is the time to do it! A blog is wonderful platform to share your thoughts, opinions, tips and tricks about your favorite topics.

But I’m sure you’re wondering – how to start a blog?

In this post, I will share simple steps on how to start a blog so that you can begin writing right away! Start a blog without needing a website designer or coder if you follow this simple guide for absolute beginners.

Choose a Platform

You can start your blog by choosing a free platform. When I started out, my blog was on a free platform as well. Blogger and WordPress are the most popular ones. I think that these platforms are great for you to get a hang of everything related to blogging (free of cost!). Once you have done that and created a community, you can move to your own domain, which is what I did.

Select a Niche

Pick a topic that you are most interested in and knowledgeable about. Figure out your blogging niche.Make sure that you can provide valuable insights and good information on whichever topic you choose. Blogging needs consistency and if you don’t have enough to say about your niche, you might reach a saturation point soon. Pick something that has a vast scope of constant content generation and will get you excited to write about it for a long time.

Name your Blog

Your blog name matters a lot. A catchy blog name stays etched in readers’ minds which in turn helps your traffic. In the future, your blog name might even become your brand. If you are looking for longevity, make sure that your blog name is great enough to be a future brand name.

But truth be told, thinking of a blog name is hard. It’s almost like naming your baby. Oh, the pressure.

So, here are some questions to ask yourself before you decide to name your blog:

  • What is my blog all about?
  • Is it a serious blog or a fun lighthearted one?
  • What can be a name that is easy to remember but still unique?
  • Can I add humor in the name?
  • Who is my audience?
  • Can I add any keywords in my blog name?
  • Is the name easy to understand and spell?

These questions will help you narrow down your ideas. Don’t forget to take a look at other websites and blogs in your niche and take some inspiration from them. You will get to learn a lot from them!

Choose a Theme

Based on your niche and your content, you can choose themes that best suit your blog. Blogger and WordPress have a lot of good theme templates available. Find a layout that fits you style and apply it to your blog…and voila! your blog will get an awesome new look!

Create a Content Schedule

You’ve set up your blog now. Great! What’s next?

The content!

Right now, you have a blank canvas ready to be painted. What you need to do now fill the canvas with your ideas. First things first – create a content schedule and decide topics to write about. Take a look at the trends and what people are sharing online. Follow Facebook groups and see what people are talking about over there. Look at Google’s keywords to get a head start. Once your research on the topics is done, you can create a content calendar and start posting your articles regularly. As always, consistency is key!

Promote your Blog

According to Software Findr, there were at least a minimum of 400 million blogs as of 2018. This number is just an estimate, the actual number could be much more.

That’s a lot of blogs on the internet.

So, if everyone is blogging, is there anyone reading it?

If you promote your blog well, there will be people reading it. You might even get a loyal audience that waits for you to publish a new post!
