So one fine day, you decide that you should start blogging. You set up a blog. Now, what do you write about? Choosing the niche of your blog is very important especially if you are considering doing it for a long term or even professionally.
But first, let’s see what a niche actually means:
“A situation or activity specially suited to a person’s interests, abilities, or nature.”
It’s something that you are knowledgeable about, passionate about and fully interested in. Basically, your blog is your stage and your posts will be your performance – you will only succeed in performing well if you’re genuinely interested in that area. And if you’re already an expert, even better!
To help you out further, here are a few questions that you can ask yourself to find your own blogging niche:
Am I knowledgeable about it?
Take a topic that you like. For example, fashion! Does talking about fashion excite you? Are you well aware of the latest trends? Do you know the Do’s and Don’ts of the fashion world? Do you have opinions about a particular fashion craze? Then there you have it. Fashion blogging is your thing! It is important to be passionate about something in order to write about it.
Can I constantly generate content about it?
Let’s take a different example now. Technology! The ‘Tech and gadgets’ niche is such where there is constant news about some new product coming out every week. Do you like doing product reviews? Want to share your opinions with your readers about what to buy and what not to buy? Which is the best smartphone in the market right now? If the above questions got you interested, this is the niche for you. Unboxings, reviews, how to’s, tips and tricks – you can do it all! Your niche should be something that you don’t get tired of and something that you can keep creating new content about.
Your blog does not have to stick to just one topic. You can widen the scope of your posts by choosing two or three areas of your interest. A single blog can be about photography as well as poetry. Fitness as well as healthy cooking. Travel as well as inspiration. Social media & tech. Take the topics that you love and go ahead with your blog!
