10 Things To Start Doing In The New Year 2024

The new year is just around the corner and… what a year 2023 has been! For some it has been a splendid year, whereas for some it has been difficult. We’ve had the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. It has been an experience that has taught all of us something we will always remember. But, as clichéd as it may sound, the new year is indeed a good time to become the new you. It signals a fresh start for whatever it is that you’re trying to do. The new year brings a chance to begin a new chapter of your life and start afresh.

So, how do you kick start 2024 in the best possible way? How do you continue the process of becoming the best version of you? Here are some things that you can incorporate in your day-to-day life to become the new you.

Stop worrying

Are you a worrier? Do you stress about anything and everything…almost daily? Then you need to remember that stressing and worrying doesn’t really help. In fact, it only worsens your health – physical and mental. In 2024, try your best to stop worrying about things and take each day as it comes. Don’t let worrying control you. Don’t let it ruin your day. Instead, try to think of practical solutions for your problem and start working on those solutions. If you’ve made a habit of stressing yourself out at every situation, make sure to recognize it and work on it in the new year.

Take care of your finances

If you’ve been spending your money like nobody’s business – it’s time you take the wheel before you lose control. Start saving and investing your money wisely. Keep an emergency fund for any unexpected situations that might arise. Want to start your own business? Maybe 2024 is the year to actually begin! Keep your goals in mind and start working on them right from the first day of the year. You will thank yourself later.

Start your fitness journey

Almost the entire population’s new year resolution might be to get fitter and rightly so. Our diets now include more of fast food and less nutrition. Our desk jobs force us to live a grossly sedentary lifestyle. Amidst all of this, make sure to compulsorily find time for exercise. A 20-min power walking session, a jog in the morning, yoga, zumba, gymming, swimming – whatever it is, be consistent with it and do it diligently. Don’t forget to talk to a dietitian and follow a proper balanced diet (no crash diets!). Getting fitter will bring a healthy glow to your face and give you loads of confidence.

Visit a therapist

If you feel like you need to talk to a professional who will listen to your feelings, thoughts, issues and help you cope with them or resolve them – visit a therapist. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, no matter what anyone else says to you. It just means that you want to become a better, healthier version of you and you’re taking professional help for it. That’s all. People visit doctors to improve their health; similarly people visit therapists to improve their mental health. It’s important and very helpful. If you’ve been wanting to see a therapist for a while now, consider this as a friendly reminder. 🙂

Learn to love yourself

A lot of us (including me) struggle with self-esteem and self-worth. Social media is a major culprit for that, although the people who project their lives as perfect are quite miserable themselves. It’s a vicious cycle which ends with us feeling depressed. This new year, let’s promise to begin our journey of loving ourselves – flaws and all – and enjoying all our imperfections. You don’t need to be anyone else, you just need to be you. There are so many people who love you for exactly that!

Practice meditation

The world we live in is very fast-paced where things constantly change and well, so does your mindset. Your mind is racing, there are a million thoughts in your head all begging for your attention. This is when you need to shut off your mind from the chaos and just breathe. Meditation is a wonderful way to calm your mind, body and soul. It helps you focus on your breathing and it’s known to make you feel lighter. It can even help with your anger, depression and anxiety problems. Incorporate mindfulness in your daily routine and see a great difference in your life.

Learn a new skill

It can be anything from learning to use Photoshop to learning how to bake. A new skill is a fantastic way to stay busy doing something you love. If you keep practising it, you can master it as well. That language you’ve always wanted to learn, that instrument you’ve wanted to play or that art style you’ve wanted to try out – 2024 is the time to begin all that and more.

Let go of toxic relations

Too often, we get accustomed to toxic behavior from someone and adjust ourselves according to that. In 2024, I implore each one of you reading to identify the toxic relationships that have been weighing you down for years and learn to let go or distance yourself. Guilt-free. If a relationship constantly gives you nothing but pain, it’s time you take a decision that makes you feel liberated and free. Meet a therapist or a counselor – they will guide you well.

Make people feel loved

When was the last time you said ‘I love you’ to the people you care about? If it has been a while, then you need to make it a habit now. Sharing genuine and loving words can not only make you feel good but also makes your loved one’s day brighter. It’s essential to remind them that you love and support them always, just like they always love you too.

Celebrate small joys

Victories and milestones, no matter how small, need to be celebrated. They are tiny little excuses to feel happy and share your happiness with your friends and family. While you might have more ambitious goals in mind, these small joys are the perfect springboards to help you keep the momentum for the bigger ones.

Summing up

I hope this list was useful to help you realize your intentions for 2024. Have an amazing year full of happiness, success, love, inner peace and prosperity. Happy New Year!
