5 Ways To Thank Twitter Followers For Retweets

Getting retweeted gives you a great feeling, right? It means that someone liked what you shared and they would like to share it with their audience too. Just like you thank someone when you receive a +K from them, you also thank them when they retweet you. Sending them a ‘thank you’ tweet is great! But according to me, sending thank you tweets consisting of multiple handles constantly can fill up mentions. Instead of that, here are some ways you can express your gratitude to others for sharing your content.

1.  Retweet them back:
When someone retweets me I tend to visit their profile to check out their tweets. When I find something interesting and informative from their tweets, I retweet it. It’s just like giving someone a thumbs up for their content as they did to yours.

2. Recommend them:
Group shoutouts are okay once in a while but it fills up your mentions with twitter handles and many of us don’t like that. Instead, individual (or smaller group) shoutouts/ recommendations work well. The thing with group recos is that many of us don’t really bother to check out each of their profiles. But when few people are mentioned with proper reason why they should be followed, it catches our attention.

I received this tweet below while writing this post. This is what not to do:

Such shoutouts look spammy.

And this is what you can do instead:

3. Give them a +K:

Instead of saying thank you, you can give them a +K in Klout to do the same. Like I mentioned in this post, giving a +K is a great way to express your gratitude.

4. Check if they have a blog/website:

Retweet their content! Everybody loves their own content to be shared to an extensive following. Visit their profile and go to their blog/website. If you like what they write, feel free to hit the tweet button and retweet their articles. Trust me, when someone shares stuff from your blog – no matter how new or old your blog is – it always feels good. Share the good stuff!

5. Facebook share/Comment/Digg/+1/Subscribe/LIKE their page:

Since there are so many social networks around, you can share the stuff you like via different social platforms. Subscribe them by email or ‘Like’ their facebook page, comment on their articles, stumble/digg/+1 it!

What do you think? How do YOU like to thank your twitter followers for retweets apart from the usual ‘thank you’?  Let me know in the comments.

  1. Great article. I have so much to learn about all this…. it’s pretty mind boggling at times!!!!Especially when everyone has their own take of what is the ‘right way’ to do things. I just want to build others up and build my business. Will subscribe to your blog.

    I also have a blog http://www.ramblingsbytiggheart.com

    1. Hi Arlene :)
It does get mind boggling! You’re right, everyone has their own way of doing things. You just gotta do what suits you best, right? :) Thanks a lot for your comment :) Hope you keep stopping by,
And I just checked out your blog! Good stuff! Happy blogging.

  2. If you’re thanking ppl for RT’s you’re doing it wrong. They RT’d your link because it was worthy of spreading. It probably had nothing to do with you..unless you made whatever you linked to. Stop being so self centered and enjoy Twitter instead of feeling forced to do things. Sorry, but it’s total BS.

    1. Since you’re being so ‘kind’ in your comment so as to saying it is ‘BS’, let me tell you something. Have you ever heard of manners? Yes, they do exist. I’m sure you must have learned about thanking people if they do something for you. Apply the same logic here too. A Retweet is an act of generosity, they care enough to hit the RT button to share YOUR content, and if YOU don’t say thank you, that means you don’t care about it. And they will stop caring about it too. Take a look at what you have written and think who is being self centered – the one who thanks or the one who doesn’t.

And btw, thanks for the comment!

  3. Nicky,
Good article and excellent adding examples of what to do.
I thank my followers by actually saying why I am thanking them first. Then, I try to retweet something important to them. Usually their blog post or website. I try to recommend quality followers whom are in this for the long haul.
